The Mitsubishi Eclipse is a coupe that has been in production since 1989 for left hand drive markets. It was named after an eighteenth century English racehorse which won 26 races, and has also been sold as the Eagle Talon and the Plymouth Laser captive imports through Mitsubishi Motors’ close relationship with the Chrysler Corporation.

Their partnership was known as Diamond-Star Motors, or DSM, and the vehicle trio through the close of the second-generation line were sometimes referred to by the DSM moniker among enthusiast circles.

The Eclipse Coupe was redesigned for 2006 and the Eclipse Spyder joined the lineup for 2007. The bold new styling was first revealed by the Eclipse Concept-E at the 2004 North American International Auto Show. With the bold new styling the Eclipse also added more powerful new engines.

Some cars try to conceal their performance with conservative styling in order to appeal to a broader market. Others flaunt their performance, wearing it like a badge. Take the Mitsubishi Eclipse  GS-T. Its stance is so aggressive, its lines so sleek, its visage so predatory, that it looks like it’s going a hundred miles an hour when it’s sitting in the driveway.

The performance of the Eclipse GS-T backs up its visage. A turbocharged 210-horsepower engine muscles it out of the blocks like a slingshot. It accelerates quicker than a Honda Prelude or Acura Integra GS-R. It gets to a hundred in a hurry and keeps on going.
